The most difficult thing about getting a detailed map of Australia is picking the right map.

There are several excellent speciality stores in Sydney which can assist you with a detailed map of Australia, and most of them are within a few minutes walk of the Sydney Town Hall.
They are the real deal, for they can sell you a detailed map of Australia map to hang on your wall – or they can provide highly-detailed government survey maps that go right down to the street (or back garden) level.
But you won’t need such a highly detailed may just to get around the city of Sydney. Street maps for visitors are freely available at most hotels and travel centers in the city.
And if you want plan on driving around and need more detail in a convenient form, you can pick up a UBD Street Directory for about A$30, or the smaller Gregory’s Street Directory at any newsagent or service station (gas station).
And Woolworths’ Town Hall store (on the corner of George Street and Park Street) in the center of the Sydney CBD also sells street directories, as do most bookshops. Fortunately the price of a decent GPS or SatNav device is now well below the $200 mark. I believe you’ll now find those in Woolies‘ Town Hall store, upstairs in the electrical and electronics gadgets area.
