The NSW Art Gallery features an excellent display of 19th and 20th century Australian Art, Aboriginal Art and Torres Strait Islander Art.
The Art Gallery of New South Wales also has a permanent display of 15th to 19th century European and Asian art, and what’s more, admission to the Art Gallery is free.
The NSW Art Gallery is situated in Art Gallery Road (where else?) which is in The Domain, east of Macquarie Street and behind the NSW State Parliament and the Sydney Hospital.
If you’re driving to the Gallery, look for the entrance to Hospital Road, near St Marys Catholic Cathedral. If on foot, you can also get to The Domain from the NSW State Library end in Macquarie St.
The New South Wales Art Gallery conducts free guided tours at 1pm each day, and Tuesdays to Saturday, you can view an Aboriginal dance performance at 12 noon.
Opening times for the NSW Art Gallery are 10am to 5pm. For further info call Ph (02) 9225-1744.
