Sydney Airport – your gateway to and from Australia

Sydney Airport Terminal 1 Airside

International Terminal, T1, at Sydney Airport

Sydney Airport is around 8 Kilometers (5 miles) from Sydney’s central business district (the CBD). The airport is located in the suburb of Mascot, New South Wales, south of Sydney itself and is often referred to by the locals as just Mascot Airport. It’s official title is Sydney’s Kingsford-Smith Airport - named after the famous pioneer aviator, Charles Kingsford-Smith.

Whichever way you choose to call it, Sydney Airport is easily accessible by car, train, taxi or bus.

The International Terminal of Sydney Airport is called T1 on the road signs, which are clearly marked with aircraft symbols. The Domestic terminals are labelled T2 and T3 respectively.)

Sydney Airport’s International Terminal has 120 shops, cafes, bars and service outlets, with an extensive range of products.

Buses

There are many bus services that operate to and from Sydney Airport, but most require pre-booking. See below:

Hotel Transfer to/from the Sydney CBD

When making your hotel reservations, check if the hotel has a free pick up or drop off service.

Metropolitan and Regional Suburb Transfer

Many shuttle bus companies provide transport between Sydney Airport and most suburbs and regional areas. These buses need to be pre-booked. Check the Sydney Yellow Pages under “Bus and Coach Services”.

Public Route Bus

Sydney Buses has a timetabled service between Bondi Junction and Burwood which includes the T1 International (and T3 Domestic Terminal) in the route. Marked bus stops are located on the arrivals level of each of these Sydney Airport terminals.

Trains

There are rail stations located at both the International and Domestic Terminals.

The Domestic rail station is directly between the T2 and T3 Domestic Terminals and can be reached from the Arrivals level within either terminal.

The International Terminal railway station is at the northern end of Sydney Airport terminal and can be reached from the Arrivals level.

Travel to the City

Airport Link has trains which run (approximately) every 10 minutes and the journey into the city takes just 13 minutes. The International and Domestic Airport rail stations link directly to the City Circle – which means most city destinations are within a short walk of the stations.

Travel to Sydney’s Suburbs

Tickets can be purchased to all Sydney stations from the International and Domestic rail stations. Simply catch the train from the International or Domestic stations to Central Station, then change for all Suburban services.

Travel between Airport Terminals

Passengers can also transfer between Airport terminals (International and Domestic) for $4.00.
