Used Cars AustraliaUsed cars Australia can be a
convenient and economical way of seeing a few cities or the
outback while you're visiting or doing the full Australian
tour.
Many younger visitors and back packers buy an old car from up
Kings Cross, do their trip, and sell it there again just before
they fly out again.
If you want to buy and old car, the place to go is the
multi-storey car park just behind Kings Cross police station.
Expect to see vans, station wagons and some camper vans there;
all with owners anxious to sell. The vehicles are pretty much
bombs but it is a quick and easy way of doing things.
If you want something better, then you can try buying a cheap
used car from a licensed dealer. Just hop a city bus up the
Parramatta Road towards Flemington. There are heaps of car
yards either side of the road to choose from. Or else you can
hop a train from Central to Parramatta itself and check out the
many car yards in Church Street.
Buyer Beware
Please be aware that there is no warranty of any kind on these
vehicles. Even a dealer won't give a warranty to a car that's
more than 10 years old. Also, while your car may be licensed to
be on the road, it will have 3rd-party injury insurance but not
third party damage insurance. You need to get damage insurance
at least, to save being sued if you scratch someone's Mercedes
or Porche!
My last tip for used cars Australia would be to join one of the
motoring clubs. In New South Wales, it's the NRMA. In
Queensland its the RACQ. They have Roadside Assistance to get
you going again if you break down, or at least tow you to a
mechanical workshop. They also perform thorough vehicle
inspections, so you can be sure of what you're buying
