Watsons Bay
Sydney Australia
Watsons Bay is on the north end of the Vaucluse peninsula
(Sydney Harbour's South Head).
It offers a panoramic view of the harbour, plus some of the
finest eating and relaxed drinking that Sydney has to
offer.
There are two Doyles restaurants at Watsons Bay: they are the
Doyles Wharf Restaurant, and Doyles At The Beach take away.
Both are pricy, but are renown for their excellent seafood.
The nearby Watsons Bay Hotel has a great Beer Garden, where you
can sip your wine or ice cold beer, and enjoy the magnificent
view over the water. Watsons Bay Hotel, 1 Military Road,
Watsons Bay. Ph (02) 9337-4299.
If the weather is fine, make a day of it and travel to Watsons
Bay by ferry from Circular Quay - this will give you a harbour
view from all angles.
And to work off your lunch, you can walk around the walk to The
Gap. The sandstone cliffs there are quite spectacular, with a
deadly drop of 100 to 200 feet (30-60 meters) onto rocks and
sea below. The Gap used to be a favourite suicide spot... a
'lovers leap'. And if you ever go there and look at the drop to
the rocks below, you'll understand why.
