Sydney Beaches
Sydney is renowned for its beautiful beaches which would rival some of the best beaches in the world. Such is the variety, that there would be a beach to suit most people across all ages.
That is because Sydney offers ocean, bay and harbour beaches - all with glorious golden sand and some with grassed areas above the sand for picnicking or for those who do not want to sunbake on the sand.
Surf beaches are for those who like to ride, or jump or swim through the waves while harbour beaches offer calm waters, ideal for young children or those who want a more relaxed swim.
Here we detail a sample of the premier beaches of Sydney, in the east, north and south.
There are of course many more beaches but this sample offers variety - from the busy well-known Bondi with its magnificent surf through to the more laid-back Manly and its beaches to the secluded harbour beach of Clifton Gardens, although the protective residents will not thank me for promoting their little sanctuary.
You will find that residents of beachside suburbs in Sydney consider the beaches to be an extension of their properties. At beaches close to houses, be mindful of how you behave and take your rubbish home with you as often there are no bins or not enough of them.
Parking is a problem at most beaches, especially in summer -mostly you pay for parking and that can be expensive all day. While transport in Sydney is not as brilliant as other major cities, it is improving and you can get to most places if you plan ahead, especially for the trip home if you plan to stay at the beach all day.
